As a kid, I was always concerned about the percentage of marks I would score in secondary and senior secondary examinations.
I thought that the society will always classify me on the basis of these figures.
Soon, I grew old to realize that these marks will have very minute repercussions on my existence. I was told that it is the rank in the IIT examinations which matters the most. Until I reached the college, my local universe was segregated on the basis of JEE ranks.
But, during the first week after I landed in my college, I was enlightened with the fact that final grades (CGPA) are the only thing that can dissolve all my previous sins—the only practical thing which I should bet upon. I worked hard to get good grades, till the placement season started. Unfortunately, all my previous assumptions went wrong during those 2-3 months, and everything percolated to packages and companies. During the placement session, irrespective of the nicknames and crazy graduation histories, everyone is treated as a single dimension vector with his package as the unit vector.
After one year of struggle in jobs, I realized that there is more to explore to like MBA, GRE, Career, Dreams… blah, blah.
Just when I thought I was about to decode all the philosophical dimensions of human identity, the universe threw a complex, insolvable dimension on me—honeymoon photos of my friends on Facebook.
Marks, packages, career, dreams, and everything else sound so superfluous to me now. I am forced to categorize people on the basis of their honeymoon destinations.
