2017 ! Lets End Happily AND Welcome the next year

Few simple rules to follow in the coming year . . .

1.) If you do not GO after
What you Want,
You'll never HAVE it.

2.) If you do not ASK,
The Answer will
always be NO.

3.) If you do not Step FORWARD,
You will always be at the same PLACE.

4.) No one is coming to make your next year successful
This life is 100% yours responsibility
Learn to handle it yourself.

5.) Learn to let unwanted people GO.
Not everyone in your life is meant to STAY.

A Good BEGINNING makes a GOOD END
Lets start and prepare ourselves to play well for the coming year.

Have a great year!

The tree does not bother about the flowers that fall,
It is always busy in making new Flowers blossom.

Similarly,

Life is not about what we have lost so far,
Its about what we can still Grow.

ज़िन्दगी गुलज़ार है

सिखा न सकी जो उमर भर किताबें मुझे।
फिर करीब से कुछ चेहरे पढे और,
बहोत से सबक सिख लिये।

Daily Quote #17 Winters Special

Deepest Thought : Walk away if it needs . . .

To break up is okay.
To divorce is alright.
To be a single parent, trust me, will not be the end of your world.
To walk away, takes such guts.
Look harder, you’ve got it.
Every one of us has it in us.
Walk away if need be.

Story of a Girl, who dreamt of flying High . . .

It was 11.35 in night.
Her husband was already slept. Parents-in-law were about to complete their
 half sleep.
She was still awake.. as a habit of every year.. waiting for 12 am.. her
birthday to start..
Those were the days, when she was in college, then in job, birthdays were
always special for her, since childhood.. First late night party with friends
and shouting loud when clock showed 12.. then next day pooja at home,
with a lunch party for some close relatives, all her wishes fulfilled by maa-papa, bhaiya-bhabhi in evening shopping and lately her favorite domino's pizza in dinner..
Next full day again birthday wishes from colleagues, close friends at work..
group lunch.. sometimes the number of cakes she cut on her birthday
touched half a dozen.. and gifts and wishes.. always uncountable..
And, suddenly, her mobile rang.. she came out of her thought's sea..
It was 12..
Messages from friends and old colleagues started ringing.. all wanted to
know how she was celebrating her first birthday post-wedding..
What would she tell everyone.. Everything happened in last 8 months was
moving in her eyes.. From the day she got married.. to the day her husband
first slapped her in a family party.. every word her mother-in-law said
cursing her and her parents.. each time her sister-in-law insulted her in
front of uneducated friends.. every torture.. every tear.. every time she
shattered..
Beep-beep
Message from Maa.. Happy birthday my princess.. May you live thousands
of years and Almighty bless you with all your desired wishes.. What you
want as your birthday gift..
Could she wish anything for herself..
Why her wings were cut when she wanted to fly out..  for a new project,  for
which her company was sending her to Amsterdam.. she wanted to live her dreams.. wanted to see the world.. to gain experiences..
But some relatives and her father's fear plus orthodox nature, and, here she
was, lying beside a person who never cared for her presence, a family who
never allowed her to match her level to even a household maid.. she laughed
over herself.. maid has some self-esteem.. if maid doesn't get enough respect
from any house, she can complain, argue and yess, can leave the home and
choose a new one.. and she.. what about her..
She didn't feel like replying anyone.. At least she could let others think or
imagine the grand celebrations of the day..
Sleep hugged her around 3:45 in morning.. Next day, a cold birthday wish
from husband and.. and nothing.. nothing happened.. When everyone slept
in night, she wrote a text to her mother..
Maa.. I don't want any birthday gift this year and nothing further
on my birthdays. I wish I could tell you everything that I have
been through in these 8 months.. I wish you were here to wipe
my tears and protect your doll.. I wish you could take me away
from this world which doesn't approve or appreciate my
existence.. I wish you were able to make dad understand that it
was not right decision for my life.. I wish you could have stopped bhaiya and bhabhi when they were asked to leave home in blame
of going against dad's decision.. I wish you could have asked me
to come back to my home if I was not happy.. I wish..
But.. I don't have any wish..
Or I have one..
Just one thing..
Maa, please change back my status to single, if you can..
Sent
No reply
For next 3 days, she didn't hear from her mom or anyone in family.. On 4th
day, she dared to call her mom, no discussion about her message, she
waited for her response, days went on, but no mention.. On 16th day, she
finally asked her mom if she has read her message sent on her birthday..
Mom said that someone was knocking at the door and cut down the phone..
She was shocked, surprised or didn't know how to feel or react.. Did she
has a home.. Did she belong to anyone.. Who's she.. She became more silent
than ever.. Stopped expecting from life.. or anyone.. Calls from her family
were getting less in number.. She compromised with life..
Days.. weeks.. and then, months passed
4 months later, it was again lonely night.. 11.45 pm.. Husband and in-laws already in sleep.. And, she, was waiting for 12 am, her first anniversary day
to start..
11:59 pm
Messages started beeping..
Suddenly, doorbell rang..
She got scared, but didn't dare to wake her husband up from sleep.. Went to
open the door.. His bhai and bhabhi were standing out.. Happily, she opened
 the door..
Greets and hugs
But, strange, no anniversary wishes..
They insisted her to come with them.. To an apartment.. May be his
brotherives here after leaving dad's place.. Her bhabhi guided her to a room..
A new dress, new jewelery, her favorite perfume, and a sexy pair of stilettos.
She was confused, was she going to attend a surprise anniversary party
without her husband.. She got ready.. Wow.. She didn't remember when she
last got ready like this.. Beautiful she looked..
Bhabhi came to get her, soon they headed to a dark room.. As she entered,
every corner lit up.. Decorated beautifully.. Her dream theme.. And, here
they are, her parents, she felt something bitter inside, but avoided it. She
hugged her parents half-heartedly.. Dad handed her a present box.. Wasn't
that gift enough for life that she received last year on same day.. Not in a
mood to create a scene, she took it and kept aside.. After multiple insists,
she opened the box.. And, there was a card, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO OUR PRINCESS
She looked her parents in a tiff, it's not my birthday, it's my bullshit
anniversary, she wanted to shout..
Still, controlling her emotions, she picked the card, and there was her job appointment letter, from 1st of next month, from the same company,
same post, same project still waited for her to fly..
She wanted to cry..
Controlled..
And, the box was still not empty.. below her appointment letter, there was..
her heart skipped a beat.. Divorce Papers..
Freedom
Her wings
And, all shouted together, Happy Birthday
And, she cried, cried her heart out..
It was a new birth of her..
A new birth of her dreams..
A new birth of her beliefs..

Let's celebrate this Navratri differently

Navratri, a festival of 9 days dedicated to Goddess Durga. India is a country where people celebrate many kinds of festivals and enjoy, but they forget the depth of the reason of the festivals.

They do celebrate Navratri, will fast for 9 days for Godess Durga ji, will do Kanya poojan on that day, but will not learn to respect the women around them. They just know to perform the rituals. After the festival is over all respect and humanity goes away.

They will never learn to respect daughters, daughter-in-law, sisters, or girls and especially will behave the weirdest on a girl child born. Why? They answer to this why is really difficult to search and understand. But this is one of the very harsh fact of our society.

The culture prevailing in our society is such that they do not want girl child born in their family but do need girls at many points. One such is Kanya Poojan(without which Navratri Pooja is not considered complete).

They never want to encourage girl child but they do need daughter-in-laws when they have to marry/sell their so called "King" like sons. Though they will not respect their daughter-in-law even for a day after marriage. And when they know she is about to give birth to a girl child, they are even ready to do anything (kill the unborn or the lady giving birth, at some places people do even more worse).

Even though our country has so many examples of girls reaching so far from boys and doing best in almost all fields today, still deep inside our society's culture, there lies a vast discrimination between a Girl and Boy even in the same family.

This navratri lets take a pledge to stop anyone seeing being cruel to such activities and mark a change and clean garbage from minds of people promoting these kinds of activities. Be it in our home, family, neighbours or relatives. Lets make people learn of what wrong they are doing to our country.

I wish the coming generation will definitely move forward and make a step.

Have a great Navratri. Jai Mata Di !

LOHRI , a festival with multiple origins

There are many origins of Lohri:

Main theme of Lohri :

  • The belief that Lohri is the cultural celebration of the winter solistice
  • According to folk lore, in ancient times Lohri was celebrated on the eve of winter solstice day.
  • It is for this reason that people believe day light is meant to increase from the day after Lohri when the sun starts its northward journey.
  • Accordingly, the day after Lohri is celebrated as Maghi Sangrand from when the days are meant to start getting longer.
  • People believe nights gradually shorten "by the grain of one sesame seed" once the winter solstice passes.

Bonfire:

  • A key feature of Lohri is the bonfire
  • Lighting of the fire has been common in winter solstice festivals throughout time and the world.
  • It signifies the return of longer days.
  • The bonfire is an ancient tradition, forming a key part of Lohri traditions.

Lohri and harvest festival:

  • Cut sugarcane

Semisolid sugar cane juice drying in another pan for preparation of Jaggery.
Lohri is traditionally associated with the harvest of the rabi crops. The traditional time to harvest sugarcane crops is January and therefore, Lohri is seen by some to be a harvest festival.

  • Food

Punjabi Sarson da Saag and Makki di roti, radish, Jaggery (Gur), ground nuts (peanuts), Sesame seeds (til).

It is traditional to eat Gajak, Sarson da saag with Makki di roti, radish, ground nuts and jaggery. The tradition to eat saag on Lohri and Maghi has been ongoing since time immemorial. It is also traditional to eat "til rice" which is made by mixing jaggery, sesame seeds and rice.

Other legends of the origin of Lohri festival:

  • Some people believe that Lohri has derived its name from Loi, the wife of Saint Kabir.
  • There is a legend amongst some people that Lohri comes from the word 'loh', which means the light and the warmness of fire.
  • Lohri is also called lohi in rural Punjab.
  • According to another legend Holika and Lohri were sisters.
  • While the former perished in the Holi fire, the latter survived with Prahlad. Eating of til (sesame seeds) and rorhi is considered to be essential on Lohri day.
  • Perhaps the words til and rorhi merged to become tilorhi, which eventually got shortened to Lohri.

Other parts of India:
Lohri coincides with the festivals of :

  • Pongal,
  • Bhogali
  • Bihu and
  • Bhogi.

Festivals in other countries:

  • Stonehaven Fireballs Ceremony 2003:

Winter solstice festivals have been incorporated into other festivals which are celebrated in various regions around the world. The festival of Yule is observed during Christmas celebrations whereby a log is burnt to commemorate the winter solstice.

  • Hogmanay:

The festival of Hogmanay is celebrated on new year’s day. The fire festival of Stonehaven in Scotland is the direct descendant of lighting winter solstice bonfires. Another event is observed every 11 January when the flaming Clavie (a barrel full of staves) is carried round in Burghead and is wedged on the Doorie Hill. When it is burnt out, people take the smouldering embers to bring good luck for the coming year.

  • Any festival with Punjabi origin seems incomplete without a song. There are many songs for this festival. But one of the famous songs of them is :

Lohri famous song:

                                                        Sunder mundriye ho!
Tera kaun vicharaa ho!
Dullah Bhatti walla ho!
Dullhe di dhee vyayae ho!
Ser shakkar payee ho!
Kudi da laal pathaka ho!
Kudi da saalu paata ho!
Salu kaun samete!
Chache choori kutti! zamidara lutti!
Zamindaar sudhaye!
Bade bhole aaye!
Ek bhola reh gaya!
Sipahee far ke lai gaya!
Sipahee ne mari itt!
Sanoo de de Lohri, te teri jeeve jodi!
(Cry or howl!)
Bhaanvey ro te bhaanvey pitt!

                                                      H A P P Y    L O H R I . . .
